I want to know a few things about (car) insurance...
1) Why is it that they can look at our credit rating and raise our rates based on our score? Being that insurance is something you have to have by law, wouldn't that be like the electric company looking at your score and charging you based on your credit?
2) Why is it that they can raise your rates based on age/sex? Isn't that blatant descrimination? I understand that certain people fall into different 'risk catagories', but it still seems like good old fashioned descrimination. What happened to 'innocent until proven guilty?' Shouldn't they charge everyone the same rate in the begining and then rase it as we get into accidents?
3) Why do three companies have the same name? 'AllSTATE' 'FARMers'

Okay I MIGHT be able to help here!! ;D
1. Believe it or not, there have been studies done that prove that more times than not the people with bad or so-so credit also have bad driving histories. Whether it be accidents or even tickets for that matter.
2. NO!NO!NO! I don't think it is all together fair that a female who is married is no longer classified a youthful driver, but then again I think that is better than having 2 youthful operators on one policy. I also don't think a male should have to wait until he is 25 to get the lowest rate possible either, but thems the brakes!!
3. How funny, I NEVER noticed that one before and I work for State Farm!!

I was with Allstate since 97'. No accidents, GREAT rates, always paid (them) on time, but they checked my credit and then more than doubled my rate ! Needless to say, I changed to Progressive

See that is where State Farm is different, if your policy is already in force here we won't change your rates UNLESS you have a lot of tickets and accidents. We are getting a little better with the "placing" of people and have lowered our rates a little. But we are still one of the highest out there, unfortunately.

State Farm booted me because I dented an old guy's bumper! It was literally $300 in damage. That's why I went to Allstate.
