ßl© So, as I'm sitting here beating my new babie's back, I'm wonder how/why does this work? Does anyone actually know why it is that me hitting my childs back makes the air expell from her belly?

The pressure on the back, pushes the babies diaphram against your chest, causing the "gas" to be expelled.
Actually, you dont have to burp her that way. I used to set the boys on my lap, with one hand on their stomach and one had on their back, gently patting their back. OR sometimes I would use the same position, and gently bounce them, until they burped.
what ever works ;D

I like to grab mine by the ankles and swing him around while singing "99 Bottles of Beer" at the top of my lungs. It doesn't make him burp, per se, but I think we're both better for it afterwards.

Is that patting on your back, or laying on it? ßööߧ
