Ok, I'm serious. This is not meant to be inflammatory, I want to know some things about Republicans these days.
You see, I used to be a Republican. I liked Reagan. I voted for Poppy Bush. Twice! I thought that he got a raw deal and is a very intelligent man. His foreign policy was complex, yet straightforward and understandable. In short, he KNEW what he was doing, and I felt comfortable with that.
I grew up thinking of Republicans as a legitimate and logical counterweight to the Democratic Party. Both had their place. Where Republicans were isolationist in nature, Democrats sought engagement. Where Republicans were fiscally conservative, Democrats didn't mind a little red ink. Where Democrats believed government could solve problems, Republicans believed that less government and more individual liberty was more desirable.
Nowadays, I'm all mixed up. So here are my questions:
1. How does a modern Republican feel about the huge deficits and national debt racked up by a Federal government completely controlled by the GOP, given that fiscal conservatism has long been a tenet of the GOP?
2. How does a modern Republican feel about the massive expansion of the Federal government over the last 3 years under a Republican Administration, given that the GOP has always railed against "big government"?
3. How does a modern Republican come to grips with the Patriot Acts, given the GOP's traditional championship of individual liberty?
I am genuinely interested in what any Republican might have to say about these issue. I don't want to hear rationalizations, though. Do NOT try to argue these precepts. They are fact. You know it and I know it. Let's be bigger than that.
I will not argue your answers on your board, I promise. I will only call you on it if you try to dispute reality, such as say that we're NOT running deficits, etc.
Ok. Lay it on me.

There is a HUGE problem with your question, Sagan. You CANNOT use the words HONEST & REPUGLICAN in the same sentence.

Score: Sagan 1 ****Honest Republicans 0**** First you would have to find ANY[/b] honest politicians before you can search specifically for an honest republican.

honestly I have no clue what I am. I always thought of my self as a pub', but I got into a discussion with someone about a year ago, who started making me think I might be more of a dem'. So, until I actually get a chance to sit down and fully listen to each side and make a well informed decision as to my honest stance on politics, I just like to yank you and Jlew's chains and call myself a pub'. ;D

That's odd, I didn't think I was avoiding the question at all. You asked me to be honest, there for I was. I don't know what I am, am I a republican? am I a democrat? am I liberal? am I a man? am I a woman?... oh wait... what was the question? Æë

I'm just giving you shit, Balooooooo Still, glad to see you're openminded. A few months ago, I don't think you would ever have even admitted the possibility of being a Dem.

******WARNING******
******WARNING****** SAGAN.... TURN AWAY NOW!!! IF YOU READ THE FOLLOWING POST AND THEN LET IT MARINATE IN YOUR BRAIN FOR A WHILE, WE VERY WELL MAY BE VISITING YOU IN ONE OF THOSE SPECIAL HOMES BECAUSE IT MIGHT DRIVE YOU BONKERS!!!!!! Is it OK to say Bonkers?... who really cares?... Not I!!!!Let's talk about what Baloo really knows. All my life my parents, friends, family, and most people I've known have been Republicans. For the most part, I have agreed with their ideas and values. So, I just thought of my self as a Republican. I guess you could say I jumped on the Republican band wagon without ever looking in the direction of the Democratic train. I have never looked into either party in depth. I just figured, "they are, so I am." So who really knows which party I go for... if any. But for now, and you're gonna absolutely LOVE this, I just go to the polls and select "ALL REPUBLICAN" on my ballots . Would you think of this as a bad thing ;D. I have always wanted to sit down with a neutral party and try to see if I can figure out which way I lean. Hmmmm... maybe some day.... Oh well, for now...... REPUBLICAN ALL THE WAY!!!!! ;D

Well that's ok, Baloo.. I guess that old adage of "vote Republican, it's easier than thinking" is truer than I thought! ;D
